The Makunouchi Bento, or traditional japanese lunchbox, is a highly lacquered wooden box divided into quadrants, each of which contains different delicacies. It is also one of the most familiar images of Japan\'s domestic environment. Reading the box as both an object and a metaphor, Felix Petrescu (Waka X) and Valentin Toma (Qewza) have founded this ambient/IDM/soundscapes project.
In collaboration with Bogdan Rosu (Adapt) they\'ve started another project, RIDMA (Romanian Intelligent Dance Music Alliance), back in 2001, releasing \"Pixelparket EP\". RIDMA took a long break ever since, but we might expect them back some time. Makunouchi Bento had some live appearances at the International Arts Festival \"Periferic\" in Iasi (2001), at all the TMBase festivals starting with the 2001 edition, plus 2 RIDMA DJ sets, the first at Evolution club, in the summer of 2001, and the second at Studentfest 2004.
The first Makunouchi Bento material, the \"Himette\" album (a collection of their new works, as well as some older ones) is unoficially \"released\" in 2001, as a promo/demo-cd, and oficially, in early 2003, on the german label Retinascan. In the time that followed, they\'ve released several singles and EPs on some famous netlabels (Ogredung, Miasmah, Retinascan, Metempsychosis, Kikapu, One, Enough Records). Other important releases include tracks on various compilations, like \"Collection 2: Moving\" (Databloem, Holland), \"VGM Mix Tape #8\" (No Sides Records, USA), Apegenine Volume 1 (Apegenine Recordings, Canada), Setup (the compilation attached to the omonymous magazine edited by TMBASE) as well as the TM01BASE si TM02BASE festival compilations. Almost all of the Makunouchi Bento tracks can be downloaded from their official website.
